Windows 7 - Repairing Your IP Address

Using the Graphical User Interface (GUI) to repair your IP address

Locate the Windows Menu in the bottom left corner of the task bar.
Select Control Panel from the Menu.

Click the Network icon to proceed.
Within the Network and Sharing Center, locate and select the Connection type.
In the example below, “Wireless Network Connect 8” will be selected to proceed.

The Connection status will display. This screen provides details for the connection, including Wireless network name, Connectivity Status, and the duration of the connection.

 
Selecting the Diagnose button will allow the connection to reconnect or repair the IP address.

Selecting the Details button will display more details about the connection such as IP Address, Default Gateway, and DNS Servers.

Using the command line interface to repair your IP address

Locate the Windows Icon in the bottom left corner of the task bar.
In the Search box, type “cmd” or “command” to locate the command prompt.

 The Command Line Interface (CLI) will display. The user can release and renew their networking IP Address from this command prompt.

Following the available prompt, type “ipconfig/all” and press Enter.

 This will display all available connection types and the available IP Address for each.

 

Following the available prompt, type “ipconfig/release” and press Enter.

This will release all available IP addresses on the available connection types

 

Following the available prompt, type “ipconfig/renew” and press Enter.

This will reconnect each available connection and display the IP address provided to that connection.

Using the Netstat command

Following the available prompt, type “netstat -a” and press Enter.

This will display all existing connections, including Listening, Close_Wait, and Established.
